My Summertime Must-Haves as a Holistic Mom

Curious about my all-time, tried-and-true, never-leave-the-house-without-em summer faves?

Here they are ☀️

Summer is the time of year when I feel like we're constantly on the go with activities, events, and plenty of time outdoors. I love it so much! But with that busyness, I need my everyday products to show up and support my health without much thought. When I was brainstorming for this post, I thought about the five things that I use every single day to help me have a holistically healthy summer!

As always, the intention is not to give you items you “need to have” or suggest you run out and buy all these things. But rather, it’s to give you an inside look at how I care for my body—and my family’s. Here are 5 things that support my health every single day of summer ☀️

  1. My fave water bottle

In the summertime, we are extra prone to dehydration. Between spending more time outside, warmer temperatures, and generally more activities, our bodies are prone to sweating more. This can put a greater demand on our bodies for hydration!

One of the easiest ways for me to prioritize hydration is by always keeping a water bottle handy. I have found that if I don’t have water nearby, I will go farrrr longer than I should— and then pay the price later.

I have had this water bottle (and several others from this brand) for years. It’s durable and does the job, and tends to be a more affordable option compared to some of the more “trendy” water bottles 🤪

  2. The best grounding, barefoot sandals

For the last 4 summers, I have lived in these sandals. They kept up through 2 pregnancies with lots of curb walking, walking 20,000+ steps a day in Italy in 2024, and many many hikes. They are the only shoes that I have loved so much that I literally re-purchased the same pair when they were worn out.

They are designed to be considered a “barefoot” shoe, or in other words, it’s a pretty basic shoe without any arch support to allow for natural foot movement and strength. Since prioritizing barefoot shoes over the last few years, I have noticed better posture, lower back strength, and foot stability.

Another feature of these sandals that I really appreciate is the small copper disk on the sole of the shoe. This small piece of metal helps to ground you to the Earth’s natural electromagnetic field. So it is second only to being barefoot outdoors 👏

  3. Non-toxic and nourishing sun care

Sunscreen has kind of gotten a bad wrap in the “crunchy” community the last few years.. and honestly, I’m not a fan. Yes, there are many other options to staying safe in the sun, and I believe they should be used synergistically. Sun damage is a real concern, so protecting our skin and keeping it nourished are priorities for my family in the summer.

Primally Pure‍ ‍is a brand that I have used every single day for 5+ years. So naturally, when they launched their non-toxic, nourishing sun care line a couple of years ago, and I use them just as much now as I did when it first launched. Sunscreen products with non-nano zinc oxide for broad-spectrum coverage, while also using natural ingredients to nourish the skin barrier?! Win, win, win. I have also been exclusively using it for my eczema-prone kiddo’s skin without any flare-ups. If you are an eczema parent, you know the struggle, so this was another big win in our home.

  4. Non-toxic deodorant (that actually works)

Again, another Primally Pure winner ✨ In the summer, we spend a lot of time outside, and I’m often ending the day a bit sweaty. This has been my favorite non-toxic deodorant for years (even through postpartum BO…IYKYK).

It keeps me smelling fresh with a slight fragrance, without any of the concerning artificial fragrances. My absolute favorite is thecitrus vanilla followed by charcoal.

  5. Essential Oil Mosquito Repellent

Did you know that DEET (the leading ingredient in bug spray) is a known carcinogen and hormone disruptor? There is a reason you start coughing when you accidentally inhale some from those aerosol spray cans…

A couple of years ago, I ditched all my conventional mosquito sprays for these stickers and they work 👏👏 And they are 1,000% my preference for my children.

These citronella stickers can be applied to your kiddos (or your own) clothing to help keep bugs at bay.

Last month, my family and I were camping in the mountains and exclusively used these stickers for keeping mosquitoes at bay. After 3 days, I had 2 small mosquito bites, and my kids had zero. And I strongly believe that the only reason I had 2 was from when I changed clothes and didn’t reapply stickers for a bit.

  6. Non-Toxic Snack Box

With all our out-and-about and adventuring, I love bringing snacks along. We try our best to avoid plastic as much as possible, so I love having our Lalo stainless steel lunch boxes. We bought them for my daughter’s school lunches, and now we’ve been using them all summer for snacks and lunches on the go. 10/10

There you have it.. a few things that have been an everyday necessity to support my health holistically this summer! What are some of your summer time faves?!
