My Cozy Fall Morning Routine for Holistic Health
My morning routine is one of the most sacred parts of the day. It helps set my mental health for the day, keep me grounded to what is important, and support my health holistically.
Here’s what that routine looks like in the fall 🍁
There’s something about fall that makes me want to slow down in the mornings. The darker mornings, cooler temperatures, and change in season naturally make our home feel a little cozier, and I’ve learned to lean into that rather than trying to maintain the exact same routine year-round.
As a registered nurse and holistic health coach, I’m a big believer that a healthy morning routine doesn’t need to involve waking up at 5 a.m. or checking off a dozen wellness habits before breakfast.
My cozy fall morning routine is simple: support my circadian rhythm, eat a nourishing breakfast, get outside, make really good coffee, spend time in prayer, and decide what actually matters for the day.
Here’s what that looks like in real life…
1. Wake Up Around the Same Time
One of the simplest habits in my holistic morning routine is maintaining a fairly consistent wake-up time.
Our bodies thrive on rhythm. A consistent sleep and wake schedule helps support your circadian rhythm, which influences sleep, energy, appetite, and other biological processes.
I don’t obsess over waking up at the exact same minute every morning, but I try to keep our schedule relatively predictable, even as the mornings get darker in the fall.
This doesn’t have to be some crazy early time if that’s a forced rhythm for you. Personally, I enjoy a little bit of quiet, alone time in the morning before my kids get up. But just set a schedule that works for you!

2. Eat a Protein-Forward Breakfast
I typically eat breakfast within about an hour of waking up, and I prioritize protein.
Instead of starting the morning with coffee alone, I like having a substantial breakfast that combines protein, healthy fats, fiber, and carbohydrates.
Some of my favorite healthy fall breakfast ideas include eggs with sourdough toast and fruit, cottage cheese with berries, or oatmeal paired with eggs or another protein source.
Eating a satisfying breakfast also makes it much easier for me to make balanced food choices throughout the rest of the day.

3. Get Outside for Morning Sunlight
Even when it's chilly, I try to step outside in the morning.
Morning light is one of the environmental cues our bodies use to regulate the circadian rhythm. During fall, when daylight hours start getting shorter, I find this habit especially helpful.
Sometimes this means taking a walk. Other mornings, it's simply stepping outside with my kids or drinking a few sips of coffee on the porch.
It doesn't need to be complicated to be effective.
4. Make a Cozy Homemade Latte
This might be my favorite part.
Once I've eaten breakfast, I make a homemade latte using organic coffee. In the fall, I'll sometimes add cinnamon or another warm spice to make it feel a little more seasonal.
Making coffee at home has become a tiny ritual that helps me actually enjoy my morning rather than immediately rushing into my to-do list.

5. Spend Time in Scripture, Prayer, and Gratitude
Before getting too far into my day, I like to create a few quiet minutes for scripture, prayer, and gratitude.
This isn't elaborate. Sometimes it's a longer Bible study, and sometimes it's simply reading a short passage and praying before the kids need me.
Holistic health encompasses more than food and exercise. For me, taking care of my spiritual and emotional health is just as important as taking care of my physical health.
6. Write Down My Top Three Priorities
Instead of making an enormous to-do list, I write down the three most important things I need to accomplish that day.
There will inevitably be 20 other little things that happen, especially with work, kids, homeschooling, meals, and keeping up with the house.
But identifying three priorities gives my day direction without making my morning feel stressful before it even begins.
7. Get Ready for the Day
After my morning routine, this is when I get ready for the day. As a homeschooling mom and someone who mostly works from home, this usually is pretty simple 😅
I get dressed, brush my teeth, and use my fave non-toxic deodorant. If I’m going somewhere else, I’ll maybe throw on a little bit of non-toxic makeup. That’s about it!
A Healthy Fall Morning Routine Doesn't Need to Be Perfect
If you're trying to create your own healthy fall morning routine, I wouldn't start by copying someone else's schedule minute-for-minute. Instead, choose a few habits that help you feel nourished, grounded, and ready for your day.
For me, that's a consistent wake time, a protein-forward breakfast, morning sunlight, a homemade cup of coffee, time with God, and three clear priorities.
Nothing particularly groundbreaking, and that's exactly why it works. A good wellness morning routine should fit into your real life, not require you to rearrange your entire life around wellness.
