My LunaLeila Review: Certified-Clean Bras + Underwear

Looking for non-toxic underwear that are actually comfy?

I’ve been testing out LunaLeila’s OEKO-TEX Class 1 bras and underwear and am sharing my thoughts, how they fit, and whether I’d recommend them for your underwear drawer 👏

I've been slowly working through my wardrobe, replacing pieces that are worn out, uncomfortable, or no longer fit my lifestyle. And one area I've been focusing on lately? Underwear.

Given how many hours we spend in underwear, I think it's worth being a little more intentional about what we put against our skin.

Over the last few years, I've tried several underwear brands that prioritize comfort, thoughtful materials, and more intentional manufacturing practices. From organic cotton underwear made with natural fibers to barely-there styles for everyday wear, some have earned a permanent spot in my dresser, while others haven't quite lived up to the hype.

Most recently, I had the opportunity to try LunaLeila, a women's underwear brand that caught my attention for its minimalist designs, commitment to healthier materials, and a barely-there approach to everyday essentials (but like, actually delivers on that).

I tested three pieces from the collection: the Balance Thong, Harmony Triangle Bra, and Elevate High Rise Bikini. Today, I'm sharing a closer look at the brand, what makes its underwear different, and what I'd consider before purchasing.

Disclosure: These products were provided to me as part of a paid partnership with LunaLeila. As always, all opinions are my own.

What Is LunaLeila?

LunaLeila is an underwear brand focused on creating comfortable, thoughtfully designed intimates for everyday wear.

I was immediately drawn to their minimalist design. Think simple silhouettes, soft fabrics, and aesthetic cuts. Personally, this is exactly what I'm looking for in everyday underwear.

But even more importantly, I want them to be comfyyy.

I'm not particularly interested in having a drawer full of beautiful underwear that I never actually want to wear. I want pieces that are comfortable enough for a full day of chasing my kids around, working from home, going on walks, and everything else that comes with everyday life.

Another thing setting LunaLeila apart is its emphasis on fabric quality, including OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class 1 certified 👏

But let's talk about what that actually means.

Is LunaLeila Underwear Non-Toxic?

If you've been around Wellness With Kaelyn for a while, you know that I'm passionate about reducing unnecessary exposure to potentially harmful chemicals in everyday products.

That includes personal care products, cookware, laundry supplies, and even clothing. But I also think it's important to approach these conversations without unnecessary fear or scary claims.

With underwear, I tend to pay attention to the fabric composition, breathability, comfort, and whether a brand provides meaningful information about its materials and production process.

Let’s talk about synthetic vs natural fibers…

There's quite a bit of conversation surrounding synthetic materials, natural fibers, and whether certain fabrics are a better choice for intimate clothing. And while I personally appreciate organic cotton and other natural materials, I don't think every synthetic or semi-synthetic fabric automatically deserves a spot on the naughty list.

For me, it's more about understanding what a finished product is made from, how it's been tested, and whether it's comfortable for extended periods of wear.

That's why I appreciate seeing meaningful third-party certifications rather than relying solely on claims like "clean," "natural," or "non-toxic."

Luna-Boo ™: LunaLeila’s Custom Fabric for Comfort and Wellness

Luna-Boo is what sets LunaLeila apart from other brands. The fabric starts as bamboo and is turned into lyocell, a semi-synthetic fabric.

LunaLeila then combines it with spandex to give it a comfy, eight-way stretch. This not only gives you freedom of movement, but it also helps the fabric to adapt to your unique body.

The complete fabric composition is: 95% lyocell made from bamboo, 5% spandex, OEKO-TEX Class I certified.

What Does OEKO-TEX Certified Mean?

One of the things that initially caught my attention about Luna Leila was its emphasis on OEKO-TEX certification. Not only do commit to the OEKO-TEX general standards, but they achieve Class 1 certification, meaning they are certified safe even for newborns.

The OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification means that a textile product has been tested for a range of potentially harmful substances according to established criteria.

Depending on the certification scope, testing can include substances such as certain dyes, heavy metals, and other regulated or restricted chemicals. This can include restrictions on certain dyes and other substances that may be relevant when evaluating textile safety.

This is particularly relevant for underwear because it's worn directly against the skin for extended periods of time. I appreciate when brands pursue independent textile testing rather than simply relying on vague marketing claims about being clean or non-toxic.

Personally, I think that transparency offers some extra peace of mind when purchasing clothing that sits directly against my skin.

What I tested…

LunaLeila Balance Thong Review

Historically, thong-style underwear are my most-worn underwear style. I want something that disappears underneath clothing, and basically feels like i’m not wearing underwear at all.

Because honestly, what's the point of no visible panty lines if you're uncomfortable all day? 😅

I've had a hard time finding thong underwear that checks all my boxes. Some styles dig into my hips, others shift around throughout the day, and some just aren't comfortable enough for everyday wear.

Thankfully, the Balance Thong has been one of the more comfortable styles I've tried.

What I loved:

  • The Waistband – The Balance Thong is soft, breathable, and truly delivers on the “barely-there” feel. As someone who carries weight mainly in my hips and thighs, I especially appreciated that the waistband didn’t dig in or create extra bumps.

  • The fabric – The same fabric is used in all of their underwear and bras, and it really is so soft and smooth. I love that it's breathable while still maintaining OEKO-TEX qualifications.

  • The fit – I ordered my true size and the fit was great. That said, the real test is not how comfortable underwear are when you first put them on, but how comfy they feel later in the day. I love that the Balance Thong didn't ride, slide, twist or bunch throughout the day – even when I was working out, taking daily walks, or lounging around.

I also liked that the cut is V-shaped, as opposed to your standard waistband going straight across your stomach. This gives the underwear a bit more of a “snatching” effect, which is so flattering.

For a single pair of underwear to work for that many different activities is a pretty big win in my book.

What to know before buying:

  • Gusset width – For the thong, the gusset is slightly narrower than the Elevate High-Rise Bikini. Personally, I didn’t feel like it was too narrow, but I know that is a feature some people prefer in their underwear! If you prefer a little more coverage in the gusset, I recommend the LunaLeila bikini cut, which was a bit wider.

  • Low rise – currently, their Balance Thong only comes in a low-rise option. If you prefer something sitting a bit higher on your stomach, the Elevate High-Rise Bikini will be perfect!

For women who prefer minimal coverage and want underwear that works with a variety of outfits, the Balance Thong is a great option.

LunaLeila Elevate High Rise Bikini Review

On the opposite end of the coverage spectrum is the Elevate High Rise Bikini. And if there's one thing motherhood has taught me about underwear, it's that I have absolutely no interest in sacrificing comfort for appearance.

I love a good high-rise bikini.

There's something about a little extra coverage that makes underwear feel comfortable and practical, especially when I'm spending the day at home. The Elevate High Rise Bikini offers a different silhouette from the Balance Thong, making it a nice option for women who prefer more coverage.

What I loved:

  • Comfort: 10/10. You get the same breathable fabric as the Balance Thong, but with a bit more coverage. I also personally prefer a mid- to high-rise waistband in general, and love where these landed on my stomach.

  • Flattering: between the high-waistband and the high-cut leg openings, I feel like these are the most flattering underwear I’ve tried.

  • Coverage: Compared with the Balance Thong, the Elevate Bikini offers more coverage, including a wider gusset. I appreciate having that option, especially for days when I want something with a bit more coverage, without feeling bulky.

What to Know Before Buying:

  • Rise and Coverage: If you typically prefer a low-rise bikini or minimal coverage, the Elevate might not be your first choice. The higher waistband and additional coverage are part of what makes this style so comfortable for me, but I know everyone has different preferences.

If you typically gravitate toward bikini-style underwear rather than thongs, this would be the LunaLeila style I'd look at first. And spoiler alert: of the three pieces I tested, this one ended up being my personal favorite!

LunaLeila Harmony Triangle Bra Review

The third piece I tried was the Harmony Triangle Bra. I've always appreciated a comfortable, lightweight bra, particularly for everyday activities. And after spending several years pregnant or breastfeeding, my relationship with bras has definitely changed.

These days, I prioritize comfort, flexibility, and pieces that don't feel overly restrictive. You will not catch me wearing something with an underwire ever.

Instead, I always reach for comfy bralettes or fabric bras like the LunaLeila Triangle Bras, so I was really excited to test it out in my search for the best non-toxic, wire-free bra.

What I loved:

  • Fabric: Again, the Luna-Boo fabric really is as soft and comfy as they claim it to be. I loved wearing it under sweaters, or just lounging around the house.

  • Fit: If I were to measure myself for a standard bra, I'd be a 36D. I ordered a size large and loved the fit. The band and the straps are both adjustable, so you really can get the perfect fit for your own body and preference.

  • Support: This is a minimal support bra and perfect for lounging or everyday wear.

What to know before buying:

  • Sizing: If you are larger-chested, I would recommend following their sizing chart on their website. They have great sizing references, measurements, and notes to make sure you get the best fit.

One of my FAVORITE features of the triangle bra is the adjustable band— I feel like that is such a rare thing to see in bralettes. It makes the fit so much more personalized and comfy! Not to mention this color 🤤

Is LunaLeila Worth the Money?

When it comes to underwear, I don't necessarily think more expensive always means better. I've tried affordable underwear that I genuinely love, and I've also tried higher-priced pieces that didn't live up to my expectations.

For me, value comes down to a few things: comfort, quality, durability, and how often I actually reach for a particular piece.

That said, I have consistently grabbed for my LunaLeila pieces when I am looking to prioritize comfort.

If your biggest priority is lightweight, comfortable underwear with a minimal feel, that also is OEKO-TEX certified for safety, LunaLeila is a great option.

LunaLeila vs. Other Underwear Brands

I've been exploring quite a few underwear brands lately, including Huha, Pact, Quince, Subset and Organic Basics. And something I've learned is that there really isn't one perfect underwear brand for everyone.

Some women prioritize organic cotton and natural fibers above everything else. Others are looking for underwear that feels practically invisible underneath clothing.

And some simply want comfortable, affordable basics that hold up well over time. I think there's room for all of those preferences.

For anyone interested in comparing different fabrics, certifications, and underwear styles, I've also put together a guide to the best non-toxic underwear brands and all my faves.

It's a helpful place to start if you're trying to build a more intentional underwear drawer without getting overwhelmed by all the options.

My Final Thoughts on LunaLeila Underwear

Overall, I think LunaLeila is a brand to consider if you're looking for minimalist underwear designed with everyday comfort in mind. It also comes with safety certifications, giving you confidence in what is coming into contact with your skin throughout the day.

I appreciate the simple styles, the variety of coverage options, and the brand's attention to textile testing.

Of the three pieces I tried, the Balance Thong and Elevate High Rise Bikini offer two very different approaches to everyday underwear, while the Harmony Triangle Bra is a comfortable and lightweight, nontoxic bra option.

And if you’re curious about my favorite piece, it’s the high-rise bikini, no doubt. It’s comfy, lightweight, and offers a bit more coverage while also feeling sexy and flattering.

If you’re curious about trying LunaLeila but have any questions, let me know in the comments. I’d love to help you find the comfiest underwear to add to your collection!
