MUD\WTR Ingredients… And an Honest Review
Mud Water? Mushroom Coffee? Adaptogens??
When I first heard all those terms, i'll be honest, I was not interested. Nothing about "mushroom coffee" sounded appealing to me. And then to market it as a coffee alternative... I doubted it.
But then I started dealing with increased anxiety, stress, and feeling like my body could use a break from all the caffeine I was drinking.
So then I got curious- what's all this mushroom coffee and adaptogen stuff about?

What Is MUD\WTR?
I love coffee. But it doesn't always love me back. And it can perpetuate anxiety, poor sleep, and overall jitteriness for me when I am already stressed. The founder was feeling similar and wanted to create something that replaced the beloved ritual of coffee.
So MUD was born, taking inspiration from all over the world.
The first thing I really noticed about the company was the list of ingredients. The company takes pride in using USDA organic ingredients that are all well-sourced and intentionally grown. They also have zero added sugar and use all natural herbs, mushrooms, and spices to flavor their drinks. Their products not only help re-create that morning ritual we know and love, but replace it will beverages that offer immune support, increased natural energy levels, without the afternoon crash.
What are adaptogens?
Adaptogens are plant substances (often herbs) that have been found to help our bodies manage stress and maintain balance. But this also includes medicinal mushrooms (nahh not the psychedelic trip mushrooms)...
All MUD\WTR mushrooms and mycelium are 100% organic, contain zero fillers and are sourced from trusted American growers.
If you are interested in learning more about their growing process and how they are maintaining quality and sustainability, I definitely recommend reading "our mushrooms" page on the MUD\WTR site. Seriously impressive and transparent which I respect and appreciate.
MUD\WTR Ingredient List and Benefits
Mud \ Wtr has 4 different blend of ingredients for specific purposes- ayurvedic herbs and adaptogenic blends to help your body and nervous system. I'll break down each one, their ingredients, and how I use them in my own life to support holistic wellness.
MUD\WTR :rise Cacao
This is the original blend and what first made MUD popular. It was the first one that I tried and to this day, still my favorite!
:rise Cacao ingredients
organic masala chai blend including organic cinnamon, organic turmeric, organic ginger, organic cardamom, organic black pepper, organic nutmeg, organic cloves
organic cacao
organic lion's mane mushrooms
organic chaga mushrooms
organic reishi mushrooms
organic cordyceps mushrooms
sea salt
These ingredients support focus, energy and immunity without the crash (or the jitters!) I have always loved a good dirty chai latte, and that is what the taste best reminds me of. I personally always mix MUD with warm, frothed milk to give it more of that latte consistency 👏
Typically I will have this in the morning instead of a cup of coffee. Especially on the days where I am working from home and needing to crank out some writing-- I have so much more focus and productivity. One serving of this contains 35mg of caffeine as opposed to 95 mg in your average cup of coffee. Not only is is a fraction of the caffeine, but it gives your body natural energy without that strung-out jittery feeling.
MUD\WTR :rise Matcha
Most mornings I reach for Cacao, but i love having options. Matcha is a powerhouse of antioxidants and the gold standard of green tea ✨
:rise Matcha ingredients:
organic Matcha Powder
reishi
lion's mane
cordyceps
chaga
ceylon cinnamon
turmeric
himalayan pink salt
This organic mushroom blend is supportive and nourishing: Lion’s mane for focus, Cordyceps supports natural energy and Reishi and Chaga promote immunity!
Matcha has a bit more caffeine than Cacao, comin' in at 55mg per cup. But still less than your average cup of coffee! I love the earthy matcha taste but it isn't for everyone. I've found that if you make a little vanilla, matcha latte (with a touch of sweetness from maple syrup) it's 😚🤌🏻 my personal favorite way to drink matcha (and take advantage of it's incredible antioxidants)!
MUD\WTR :balance Turmeric
If :rise drinks help to wake you up and give you natural energy, :balance does just that.. give you BALANCE. Making it the perfect drink for afternoons (or really any time)! This was the last one of their blends that I tried, because TBH- it didn't seem like a flavor profile i'd personally enjoy. But i'll be the first to say-- I was wrong.
:balance ingredient blend
organic turmeric
organic reishi
organic lion's mane
organic cordyceps
organic chaga
organic lucuma fruit powder (for natural sweetness and flavor!)
organic baobab
organic ceylon cinnamon
himalyan salt
The organic spice blend supports you throughout the day without messin’ with the night.. plus promotes gut health with prebiotic fiber (because we love optimal digestion over here)!
Aaand last but not least....
MUD\WTR :rest Rooibos
This makes the perfect restful night cap 😴
:rest ingredient blend
organic rooibos tea extract
organic valerian root extract
organic passionflower extract
corganic ceylon cinnamon
organic turkey tail
organic ashwagandha root extract
organic reishi
organic turmeric
organic chamomile extract
lucuma fruit powder
Calming and relaxing from everyday stressors.. and my favorite part of a holistic bedtime routine to help get optimal sleep!
How I Use MUD\WTR
When I first tried MUD back in 2019, i was struggling with coffee dependence, anxiety, and over-all a lot of health symptoms. i knew I needed to take a stop back from the copious amounts of caffeine I was consuming... but I still needed that oompph I got from caffeine. I went 30 days without coffee and not to be dramatic- but it really changed my health. During that time I experimented with MUD\WTR :rise Cacao and just felt better. Sustained energy throughout the day, no afternoon crash, and a heightened focus and alterness without feeling wired.
Since then, I am a lot more conscious of my caffeine intake and only have one cup of coffee max per day. Or I swap it all together and opt for a cup of mud ☕️ especially during times where I am stressed, dealing with illness, or anxious and want something a bit more supportive to my nervous system. Overall, its a much more balanced approach to caffeine intake.
Most nights, I drink the Rooibos blend as part of my bedtime routine and love how grounding it is- a tasty hot coco- like treat that I usually blend with whole milk and collagen for a little extra protein before bed.
