Our Holistic Eczema Journey: One Year Later

A sequel to my original eczema post…

Here are some of the things that helped our family treat eczema the most.

Time- Everyone told me that healing eczema could take a long time.. and oh boy, did it ever. From the time it started getting more severe to the time it was mostly healed was a good two years. That is two years of different creams and supplements and tests… and honestly, I don’t think most of what we tried did much to support her body. But when we found the few things that did, I was thrilled!

As much as you want the eczema healed overnight (believe me, I did too), it will probably take some time. Continue providing a clean and nourishing environment and take it one step at a time.

Some other things we tried for healing eczema holistically

Like I mentioned before, we tried a lot of different things. And while the list above are interventions that we notably saw improvements with, there were probably a lot of factors that helped to move the needle so support her body towards healing. Here are some of the other things that we tried to implement and may have helped, but were not as prominent. That said, they may help support your body better, so I thought they’d be helpful to add.

  • good ol’ sunshine and vitamin d

  • red light

  • probiotics

  • grass-fed beef tallow lotion

Where to Find More Help

Navigating eczema can feel really overwhelming. We see an amazing functional health pediatrician who has helped a lot! But more than anything, we found success when we stopped stressing about it healing, stopped trying all the things, and really just focused on treating their symptoms, keeping them comfy, and trusting their bodies would heal when given the right resources. And it did.

Every once and a while, we will have a minor flare-up (nothing nearly as bad as it once was), and it always coincides with a season of more stress, less sleep, less nutrient-dense foods… and anytime their little bodies don’t quite have all the things they need.

I also have some really dear friends who have also navigated the eczema journey, and it is so nice having people who just get it. But if you feel like you are facing this battle alone, here are some of my favorite online resources for more information:
