Healthy Baby Diapers- Are they really the “safest” diaper around?

Curious about the only EWG verified diaper brand?!

My little guy has been wearing these diapers recently and I’m sharing what I love and what I don’t— and whether they may be right for your family!

You know I love clean products. But maybe even more than that, I love trying new, innovative products that work.

So when Healthy Baby offered to send me some samples to try out, I was stoked. It was a brand I had seen exclusively used by my best friend and cousin Kieley (who also has an amazing blog you can check out HERE).

TLDR: I love that these diapers have biodegradable packaging, are toxin and fragrance free, and are so soft! With my son, I noticed a little more leaking than with my other go-to diaper brand. Overall though, I still think they can be a good option for families wanting a non-toxic disposable diaper for their little one! (p.s. you can save 15% off your orders with code HealthyBaby15 ✨

About Healthy Baby

Healthy baby isn’t just diapers. In fact, they carry a ton of awesome products for mom and baby! Diapers, wipes, cloth diapers, skincare products, home cleaning products, and even pre- and post-natal vitamins! I’ve spent the last couple of months trying their diapers, wipes, and 4th trimester vitamins and as always, am sharing my thoughts and experiences to hopefully help you find the best products for your family.

Healthy baby has the first and only EWG verified diapers— this is pretty impressive. This means that all of the ingredients in the diapers are approved by the EWG (Environmental Working Group) for safety and health standards. It also means that it avoids all the garbage. While some certification agencies are “just another stamp”, I do appreciate that it takes a bit of the heavy lifting and research off of a parent’s shoulders. They also have a ton of education and content on why specific ingredients may be potentially harmful for your health, and what symptoms or side effects you may seen. I think this is sooo important! Rather than jsut sharing a bunch of information to illicit fear, they educate and empower you to make the correct choice for you.

Now that I have effectively gone down an EWG rabbit hole, here is a post from them all about diaper safety if you’re interested in digging deeper 😅

A few other cool things to note about the company:

  • only EWG verified diapers

  • carbon neutral manufacturing

  • enhanced with 15% organic cotton

  • only plant-based materials touch your baby’s skin

  • biodegradable paper packaging

My Honest Review on Healthy Baby Diapers

Diapers are one of those things that I am happy spending a bit more money on when they work. I don’t want to hassle with leaks and blowouts or rashes on my kiddo’s sensitive skin. So, I also have been known to use “less clean” diapers because they function better. This is what our family prioritizes and works for us. So I get really excited when brands claim to do both!

Honest Baby gifted me several packages of diapers and wipes to try out— and I’m here to report back with what I loved and what I didn’t.

What I Loved About Healthy Baby Diapers

  • So soft— seriously. One may say they are soft as a baby’s bottom 😉 So soft that they tend to pill a bit on the outer part of the diaper but this doesn’t affect their absorption at all so it doesn’t bug me.

  • Packaging!! I get so sick of all the plastic wrapping and packaging on diapers. It was such a nice surprise to pick up the package of diapers and feel that they were paper! As far as I know, this is the only diaper company to do this. Good job Healthy Baby 👏

  • Great Absorbency- the capacity of these diapers is impressive. I’ve been known to size up diapers at nighttime to avoid leaks, but it doesn’t seem to be necessary with these!

  • Available in person— Not only can you sign up for a recurring diaper subscription and have them delivered straight to your door, but Healthy Baby diapers are available at Target nationwide. I love this! I usually don’t pack any diapers when we travel (only a few for the flight), and stock up when we get to our destination.

What I Didn’t Love About Honest Baby Diapers

  • Leaks- While these have great absorbency, I found that I dealt with more leaks compared to my other go to diaper brand. Especially when my son was sitting, we had urine leak out of the top of the diaper several times. And when his bowel movements were more on the liquid side, there was also a bit of leaking. And to be honest, I think both of these things come down to the fit of the diapers. While they fit around his thighs, there was a lot of gaping at the back of the waistband. I’m curious if ordering a size smaller would help? When I ordered a size 5, he was 24 pounds, which is on the lower end of their size guide.

When you sign up for a diaper subscription, you can change and edit your sizes. So this may be a really good option if you are trying to find the perfect fit for your little one!

  • No wetness indicator- this is not a deal breaker, but I do find they are convenient. I can appreciate their prioritization of minimizing any questionable chemicals and ingredients though!

  • Priceyy- Disposable diapers are already expensive, let alone trying to find healthier options for your baby’s skin 😅 When you bundle 5 packs of diapers, they come out to $0.50/diapers (for size one). Compared to my favorite diaper brand that’s $0.41/ diaper (again, comparing size 1 price). When you are changing hundreds of diapers a month— it adds up!

So what’s the verdict?? I overall think they are a good diaper. Not my favorite, but still a really good option if your family wants to prioritize using cleaner disposable diapers or you have a bit bigger of a diaper budget. Over the last 3+ years of diapering and babies, I know that one brand of diapers works better for some babies than another brand and that’s just the way it goes 🙃

Let me know if you try them out!
