9 Month Gray Hair Grow Out Update

HOW has it already been 9 months since I last dyed my hair?? It is actually wild to me how quickly— while simultaneously taking forever— the past nice months have gone. Like I could have made it through another pregnancy?!

This month was maybe my favorite one yet too, which was exciting!

How I am Feeling About the Gray Hair Grow Out Process

I’m not going to lie.. it is a long haul growing out your hair. BUT— I am nearly at the point where my natural hair reaches my ears. I felt like this was such a silly benchmark that people talked about but now I GET IT. I can pull my hair back into a slicked bun, or claw clip, and you cannot see the demarcation line from the front.

That said, we are now at the point that my gray hair is starting to peak out from the bottom when I wear a hat. I don’t mind so much since I am feeling a lot more confident with the grow out!

What’s Next

After thinking a lot, like a lot a lot, I have decided that I am going to have a few appointments for gray blending. I reached out to a color correction specialist who is going to lighten the ends of my hair to match the natural growth. This appointment is in a couple of weeks and I will definitely be writing a post about my experience and results. She let me know that the whole process will take 3-4 appointments depending on how well the old color lifts from my ends.

I am hoping that gray blending will help me to enjoy the grow out process a bit more without doing a really big chop. I am also a little bit nervous about how it will affect my hair integrity but I appreciate the hair stylist taking a conservative approach to protect my hair quality as much as possible with lightening.

If any of you have had gray blending services to match your root growth, I would loove to hear your experience!

Updated Grow Out Photos

I am so excited to get these warm, brassy ends matching my cool roots a bit better!

Now that my gray hair is growing out a bit more, I am able to notice the difference in texture. Some of them are definitely a bit wiry and wavy!
