10 Best Books on Intuitive Eating for Holistic Wellness
"Intuitive eating" and "mindful nutrition" can be such refreshing terms in the wellness landscape full of rampant diet mentality. If you want to ditch restrictive eating, endless food rules, and a non-stop diet cycle, these may be some empowering and insightful reads.
Several of these books are ones I have personally read, while others have been recommended to me and I plan to read (why is there never enough time for the stack of books on my nightstand 😅). These books, written by prominent health professionals, share the latest research, inspiration, and encouragement to help foster a healthy relationship with food.
What is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive eating is an approach to food and nourishment that emphasizes listening to your body’s internal cues rather than relying on external diet rules or restrictions. It’s rooted in the idea that our bodies are naturally equipped to regulate hunger, fullness, and energy needs when we learn to trust them. Developed by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, intuitive eating encourages rejecting diet culture, honoring your hunger, and making peace with all types of food.
Unlike traditional dieting, which often focuses on weight loss and calorie counting, intuitive eating prioritizes a holistic connection between mind and body, fostering a healthy and sustainable relationship with food. It’s not about perfection or eating "right" but about tuning in to what your body needs in a compassionate, nonjudgmental way.
These are some of the best intuitive eating books I've found and will cover topics including healthy eating, emotional eating, gentle nutrition, hunger, and fullness cues. As always, nothing on this blog is medical advice, and you should speak with your own personal care provider about whether intuitive eating is appropriate for you (keep reading if you're curious about signs that intuitive eating is NOT right for you).
10 Best Books on Intuitive Eating Principles
It can be so overwhelming trying to learn anything health, nutrition, or food-related online. There are so many contradictory messages and for so long, I found myself stuck in this cycle: binge-consuming health content > confused by the conflicting recommendations > and ultimately not doing anything because I don’t know where to start 😅 It wasn’t until I learned about nutrition and bio-individuality that I felt equipped to make healthier choices for my holistic wellness.
These books are all a great place to start if you are interested in taking a more intuitive approach to eating and nutrition.
