Best Non-toxic Electric Tea Kettles (100% Plastic Free!)
Over the last few years, my family has intentionally been reducing plastic as much as possible. And with each kitchen utensil or appliance we try to replace, we find how hard it is to find a high-quality, toxin free and PLASTIC free option! And after writing a guide to plastic free air fryers and being shocked at how popular it was, i’m comin’ atcha again with another kitchen appliance.
So today we are sharing all about the best electric kettle with 100% plastic free interior!
Why Plastic Free?
I wrote a blog post all about it here, but the quick version is this:
When heated, chemicals inside plastic can leach out. Many of these chemicals are known endocrine-disruptors (meaning they disrupt the natural cycle of our hormones). Hormones are these important messengers that run nearly all functions in our body...So, when they are disrupted they can cause a cascade of health problems (i'll get more into the specifics here in a bit).
Whenever I talk about chemicals on this blog, I always want to mention a disclaimer. My heart in tackling this topic is never to fearmonger or create anxiety around “chemicals”. The reality is everything is a “chemical”.
Certain ones don’t work well with our bodies. And many can accumulate in our tissues causing issues. These are often referred to as “forever chemicals” and are being linked to health concerns including cancer, infertility, and mental health problems (plus so many more).
The other factor to consider is the amount of toxins we are exposed to.
We have pesticides and herbicides in our produce, preservatives in our foods, chlorine and fluoride in our water, fragrances and sulfates in our beauty products– to name a few.
And if our detox pathways are not open, this leads to accumulation.
All that to say, this information is presented so that you can make the best-informed decision for you and your family.

What do chemicals have to do with electric tea kettles?
Electric kettles have become a staple in kitchens (and one of my personal faves when it comes to tea time), known for their convenience and speed. However, many of these standard kettles have plastic parts, especially in areas like:
The inner lid
Water gauge windows
Handles
Interior linings
plastic lid
In many cases, even if the kettle itself is stainless steel or glass, there may still be small plastic components inside. These plastic parts, when exposed to heat, can break down over time and release substances into the water.
The Health Concerns
The primary concern with plastic in kettles is the potential for plastic leaching. When plastics are exposed to high temperatures—such as boiling water—they can release harmful chemicals like BPA (bisphenol A), phthalates, and other endocrine disruptors when in direct contact. These substances are concerning for a few reasons:
Endocrine Disruption: Chemicals like BPA mimic hormones and can interfere with the body's endocrine system. They have been linked to various health issues, including hormonal imbalances, reproductive disorders, and even an increased risk of certain cancers.
Developmental and Neurological Effects: Children and developing fetuses are particularly vulnerable to the effects of these chemicals. Exposure during pregnancy or early childhood could potentially lead to developmental delays or neurodevelopmental issues.
Toxin Accumulation: Chronic exposure to even small amounts of these chemicals over time can lead to a build-up in the body. This is especially problematic because plastic chemicals like BPA are persistent in the environment and in human tissue.
Plastic-Free Kettles: A Safer Choice
For a long time, I have used a stovetop stainless steel kettle for warming water. But after using some friends and family's electric kettles and seeing how quickly they get to the set water temperature, I started researching the options.
And unfortunately, there are not many truly plastic-free, non-toxic kettle options. So many of them have some type of plastic in the interior, so it took quite a bit of wading through options. Here were some of my requirements in looking for in a non-toxic tea kettle
All stainless steel or glass interiors: No plastic parts should come into contact with the boiling water. I also wanted a fully stainless kettles to avoid any potential heavy metals.
No plastic components in the lid or spout: Many stainless steel tea kettles still contain plastic bits- like the lid, spout, or filter.
BPA-free certifications: If any plastic is used in non-critical parts (like the handle, where water is not coming in direct contact), make sure it's BPA-free.
With that, here are some recommended tea kettles with safer materials that would make a better choice:
1. Saki Luna 1.75 L Electric Tea Kettle-- My numberrrr one top pick for a tea kettle (and the one I put in my shopping cart almost immediately after finding). Here are some of the things I love about it:
aesthetic.. its sleek and timeless looking which I always appreciate as an added bonus
100% plastic free kettle. Truly every single piece is metal-- stainless steel interior, stainless steel spout and filter
7 temperature presets-- so whether you want the perfect temp for green tea or pour-over coffee, it has the preset for ease of use. Or if you prefer adjusting it manually, you can set your temp that way too! The 7 presets are: Green tea, white tea, oolong tea, coffee, black tea, herbal teas, and boil water. (literally makes making a cup of tea sooo easy. I set the temp, add looseleaf tea into a french press or tea diffuser, wait the alloted time, and voila!)
larger capacity than some of the other kettles on the market-- i don't always need a lot of hot water, but when we have guests over or im making several cups its the best option
2. Best Gooseneck Kettle- This is by the same company that makes the previous one, except this is their gooseneck design.
same sleek-looking heating element
variable temperature controls, plus preset options
ergonomic handle for easy pouring
3. Clear Glass Kettle- I had such a hard time finding glass tea kettles without plastic.. many of them had plastic or silicone. While this one does have a bpa-free plastic handle, none of it comes into direct contact with the water.
spout filter is food-grade stainless steel
some of the highest Amazon reviews compared to others
There you have it! If you are looking for a new kettle and trying to prioritize safe materials, I hope this helps! OR if you have one that you loove, i always appreciate a good recommendation!
