Easy Ways to Have a Healthy Easter With Kids 2024
I grew up in a Christian home and have been celebrating Easter my whole life. It is such a special time of bringing family together, celebrating your faith, and enjoying fun activities with the kids in your life.
Decorating easter eggs, opening easter baskets, and searching for hidden eggs are some fun activities we are looking forward to doing with our daughter this year and I know I want to intentionally plan them so they are a little bit healthier- but still just as fun and memorable!
This post breaks down each fun activity and gives you healthy, non-toxic, and fun ideas for each and every one- while still trying to keep the emphasis on the purpose of the holiday.
And as a reminder- you do not need to purchase anything to have a special holiday with your kids! You can easily make a fun craft at home, go on a family walk, or cook a meal together in the kitchen. Looking back, kids will most remember the quality time you spent together as a family, far over any easter basket items or matching Easter outfit. So if the thought of all the holiday prep is stressing you out, you have full permission to take it easy and focus on the things that truly matter.
Healthy Easter Basket Ideas for Toddlers
I think it is soo easy to go overboard when buying stuff for an Easter basket. Especially when you pick up a small thing here or there over the course of a couple weeks… One way I have kept track of gifts for my daughter is making a list of the things I have intentionally decided on buying her, and then I stick to that list and cross it off as I pick things up. It gave me a bit of direction on keeping the Easter basket items to things she actually needs or is going to use. Plus, a few healthy snacks thrown in there!
Here are 15 healthy easter basket ideas (that you can all order from the comfort of your couch👏)
Easter Book- We loove books in our home.
All God’s Creatures - this lift and flap book is so cute and interactive!
This Story of Easter book is one we bought last year and still read regularly!
Coloring books and non-toxic crayons
These crayons are 100% beeswax and easier to hold for little hands
This is a super cute dot- marker activity book! (I would personally get this marker set to go with it- they’re non-toxic and washable👏)
Name Puzzle - my sister-in-law got my daughter a similar one for her birthday and it has been such a fun way to practice animals and start introducing letters
Natural Rubber and Mold-free Bath Toys- We have this cute turtle and whale!
Toddler scripture cards- I have been wanting something like this for months! My plan is to stick one card on the mirror in her room each week. Then as we are getting ready in the morning, we can talk about the verse together. Plus the little drawings are so cute and gender neutral (we are currently expecting a boy so gender neutral things give us some longevity in our home)!
Family Games- Our family looves family game nights. So while our daughter isn’t quite ready, these are some that I have been keeping an eye on for when she gets just a little older!
The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel (ages 3+)
My First Game: Bears in Pairs (ages 2+)
Monkey Around First Game for Toddlers (ages 2+)
Non-toxic Easter Egg Decorations
My daughter will just barely be two for Easter this year. So, i’m not sure how ambitious I am being in thinking she is going to actually be doing much egg decorating… but I still want to have some safe options in case she is showing an interest in it. Plus all the decorating items below are items that we can use for other crafts and projects around the house at a different time.
All Natural Food Dye- This stuff is amazing. Made from things like spirulina, beets, and turmeric- not artificial coloring 👏
Easter Stickers- I figure a couple of these sheets will end up in her basket and then we can cut up a few others and use them as a non-food easter egg filler too
Non-toxic and Washable Finger Paint- This kit comes in fun colors and is fully washable! Which makes me think this may be the route we go for Easter egg decorating this year!
Healthy Easter Egg Fillers
This will be the first year that my daughter is old enough to get involved with some of the easter activities and actually understands the concept of “finding” things. SO I am so excited for her to search for Easter eggs in our yard! I knew I wanted to make sure we had some healthier easter egg fillers that were still a fun treat that a toddler would enjoy!
Non-Food Easter Egg Fillers Ideas
small animal figurines
mini puzzles
stickers
garden seeds (I saw this idea on Pinterest and think it is so cute. My daughter loves talking about plants, so I am excited for her to see garden seeds sprout this spring and summer)
slips of paper with bible verses to read
fabric bracelets
Healthier Food Items for Easter Egg Fillers
This is It Bar- We usually buy these from costco or Thrive Market
Skout organic bars- another one of our Thrive Market favorites!
Unreal Candy- This brand of candy is made of whole, natural ingredients with less sugar! And they still taste great!
There you have it! Everything you need for an Easter holiday that a little bit healthier, but just as happy and memorable. Let me know if you have any favorite Easter traditions for your family. I’d love to hear from you.
