Snuggle Me Organic Nursing Pillow Honest Thoughts
One thing I did not expect when becoming a mom was how much product research I would inevitably do 🙃 car seats and strollers and diapers-- so when I found blogs and reviews from like-minded women i was so thankful. It really helped take the guess work out of what to purchase and that is the way I have found some of my favorite products. So that's the heart of this post--sharing one mama's experience for any other mama's who are curious!
I've shared on the blog before how I had a boppy pillow when my first baby was a newborn-- and it was fine. but I didn't love it. And I felt like even when I used it, I needed to supplement with other pillows underneath it for added support. So I used it for a bit before giving it away...
Then with the birth of my son, I knew I wanted to try to find a breastfeeding pillow that was mo supportive. So I tried a couple popular brands, specifically the Snuggle Me Organic Nursing Pillow. I loved our snuggle me organic lounger, so was really excited to try this pillow...
TLDR: I did not like this nursing pillow nearly as much as their infant lounger.. not one bit actually. I did not feel like it was the right pillow for me as it did not offer the support in the right places. I do appreciate that it is an organic feeding support option, but I feel like there are other options that perform better...
"The Snuggle Me Feeding Support is designed to fit you and your baby’s unique feeding needs. Crafted with narrow ends that tuck behind your back or side, and a thick center that brings baby right to you." -Snuggle Me Organic
Trying the Snuggle Me Organic Nursing Pillow
In those first few days and weeks of breastfeeding, I feel like my focus was on the optimal latch and finding the perfect feeding position. Now, as writing this, my 14 month old is standing on the couch jumping and nursing 🙃 So if you are an expectant mom and all this feels overwhelming-- I promise, you will get into the swing of it all and be a pro in no time. All new things come with a learning curve and no one was immediately a pro.
With that said-- here are the pros and cons I found…
What I loved:
organic cotton covers without harmful chemicals
fully machine washable pillow
made without any flame retardants
aesthetic colors
What I didn't love:
The ends are very narrow-- When I had the pillow positioned midline, I felt like my baby's head was lower than there body. To accommodate, I would rotate the pillow slightly, but then it was awkward behind my back.
expensive. Here's the deal-- you will not use nursing pillows for long. Mayyybe a couple months? And I just don't feel like the price was justified for how long we would have used it. Some moms have mentioned using it later for tummy time, bottle feeding or even as a toddler pillow-- but I just didn't see myself doing either.
My Favorite Nursing Pillow
So if I didn't like the boppy, and i didn't like the snuggle me feeding support, what nursing pillow would i recommend?
Honestly, I feel like you need to find out what works for you and your baby best. And that might not even include a support pillow. With my second, we did a lot of side-lying nursing. If I wanted a little more support, I just used a standard pillow propped underneath his body and it worked far better than any of the "nursing" pillows with a unique design.
That said, if you do find yourself needing one, finding the right nursing pillow for you is gonna be a bit personal! Here are some of my faves with their pros and cons:
Butterr Plant based cushion with organic cotton cover-- this is the boujiest of nursing pillows IMO. And it has the price to back it 😅 But it is the best nursing pillow I have ever tried (so thankful my friends let me borrow their things!) If I was someone who regularly used a support pillow while feeding, I think it is worth the investment.
This organic latex pillow feels like the most lightweight, soft, foam pillow. I never felt hot using it. And I loved that it really maintained its shape. It's plant-based with hypoallergenic fabrics, and wins for aesthetics. The whole pillow was easy to move and get into a comfortable position. I strongly considered purchasing this myself, but I knew this was the last baby I would breastfeed and I just knew we wouldn't use a support pillow for long. All that to say, if you are looking for ultimate comfort with strict material safety standard, this may be a great option to try. That said, I do not think it is necessary because it is pricey!
My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow- This is such a popular nursing pillow. Personally, I do not like that it buckles in the back (although it does offer a more supportive feed), or that there aren't any organic cotton fabrics or natural fiber options available . But I do like that it has a little pocket to keep things easy to access. Compared to some of the other options, it's quite a bit more affordable too!
As always, none of this is medical advice. Make sure to do your own research and look into the support safety don'ts to ensure baby's safety!
